The Faces of the Fallen: A Tribute

Go here to see an online slideshow of portraits of those American soldiers who have paid the ultimate price in Iraq and Afghanistan while in our country's uniform.

Those who died in Afghanistan could be said to have died in something resembling a worthwhile cause (that of securing the capture of Osama bin Laden, remember him, he's the guy who is actually planned, bankrolled, and carried out the attacks of September 11, 2001?) but those in Iraq have died for no reason.

They did in the service of a lie. They were in our country's uniform to defend our freedoms yet those freedoms were never, ever under threat from anything or anyone in Iraq.

Yet they died anyway. They died so that Bush and his oil buddy corporate patrons could have easy access to a cheap source of oil in order to line their pockets with cash.

This is an evil against which there can be no lesser moral obligation than to stand against it and say, "No."

This must not stand. We must do whatever we can to stop Bush and the men behind him. Perhaps then, those many, many brave men and women who died there will not have died in vain.

Let us remember this on this day we set aside to honor our nation's fallen warriors.
